Bretonside Tunnel Mural - BowdenEdgar

The Bretonside Tunnel, a key link between Plymouth’s city centre, queer quarter and harbour, had become unwelcoming due to tagging and antisocial behaviour. We were commissioned to transform it into a safer, more inviting space.

With a design featuring bold colours and vertical lines, we devised rolling wave patterns to suggest movement and clear signage to improve wayfinding, making the tunnel more functional and visually engaging.

Since completion, footfall has increased, businesses have benefited, antisocial behaviour has declined, and locals have responded positively.
