Big Ups

Plymouth is twinned with Gdynia, the Polish city on the Baltic coast. As part of the Mayflower 400 commemorations, Building Plymouth approached us to create a new design for the bridge over Gdynia Way.

Engaging with the local Polish community, we devised a herringbone pattern which merged into waves. Typography based on Gdynia’s post-war street signs was redrawn and adapted, while colours reflected the deep blues of the Baltic and the lighter shades of Plymouth Sound.

In the words of Adrian Vinken OBE, Chief Executive of Theatre Royal Plymouth: “A terrific legacy that makes a real difference to how the city feels, both residents and visitors.”
